                                                                                   2010 City Championships

                                               2010 501 City Championships

                                                                                  First Round

Defending champion Sandy Hudson started her title defense as the tenth seed against Bob Archbold at the Irish Pub. Bob played well but could not stop Sandy from posting a 2-0 victory.
Also at the Irish Pub Chuck Hudson bested Candra McClellan 2-0 to advance. Chuck was fortunate as Candra missed several key doubles in a match that was much closer than the score indicates.
Howie Kratz survived a scare from Mike Cook to win 2-1 at Daytona's. Mike had several opportunities for 180's and pushed Howie hard before bowing out.
John Liggett was the highest seed in action in the first round and was never really challenged beating Eric Ginac 2-0 in a match played at the Palace. Eric was coming off surgery and never could find his comfort zone.
Jeff Turner beat David Howard 2-0 at Two Bert's. David struggled with bounce outs through out the match and never was able to recover the lost points in a frustrating defeat.
Marc Cetrone pulled out of the playoffs pending a move which allowed Gene Smith to advance to the second round. Brian Bemis and Tom Hoskins earned first round "byes".
                                                                               Second Round

Chuck Hudson  earned a second straight 501 final four appearance with a 2-0 victory over Howie Kratz at the Irish Pub. Chuck started strong and strung enough good shots together to survive a match that the momentum swung to both players in stretches.
Tom Hoskins had a great season, slamming 180's along the way to earning a second seed and a first round "Bye". The good news for him was that the 10th seeded player had scored an upset in the opening round awarding him with lower seeded player for his second round match. The bad news was that player was the defending champion and she was on top of her game.  Sandy Hudson bested Tom 2-0 in a match played at the Irish Pub sending her to the semi-finals and one step closer to defending her crown.
Top seeded Brian Bemis defeated Jeff Turner 2-0 in a match played at Two Berts. Brian was on top of his game against the always dangerous Jeff who was not highly seeded this year, to earn another final four berth. He is the only player in GPDA history to make the semi finals in both 501 and cricket everytime.
John Liggett claimed his spot in the final four by besting teammate Gene Smith 2-0.  The match ended the 11th seed upset bid to reach the semi finals and was played at the VFW. John's win sets him up in both 501 and cricket semi finals.

                                                                                 Final Four

Fourth seed Chuck Hudson earned his first GPDA city championship final by upsetting the top seeded Brian Bemis at the Irish Pub. Chuck started strong, threw solid through out the match and hit clutch doubles to squeak out a 2-1 victory, Brian got off to a slow start bouncing darts and quickly losing the first set, then he changed his points and starting hitting some big shots to tie the match. Through out, the games were good and the scoring was crisp with games going 21-25 darts per leg.
John Liggett earned a hard fought 2-1 victory over defending champion Sandy Hudson in a match played at Tommy T's. Sandy won the opening set and had her shots in the second set before bowing out. This was her first defeat in two seasons of 501 Championship matches. John played good darts throughout and finished strong to earn his first shot at "The Ron Beach Award".

                                                             2011 501 City Championship Final

John Liggett came in as the # 3 seed. His road to the finals started with a
2-0 win against the always dangerous Eric Ginac and a 2-0 win over team mate Gene Smith. He beat defending champion Sandy Hudson in the semi-finals and  won 6 of 7 sets during his run to the finals.
Chuck Hudson was the #4 seed and opened with 2-0 wins over Candra McClellen and Howie Kratz. Both matches were very competitive. He beat top seed Brian Bemis 2-1 in the semi finals and as also won 6 of 7 sets played.
Both players were appearing in their first 501 City Championship. The match was played in the smoke free conditions of the Irish Pub.
Chuck started well taking out "80" to win the first leg on 23 darts and went on to win the first set. John started on fire in the third leg opening with 140-140-85 on his way to a 16 dart game. He went on to win the set and even the match. They battled back and forth over the next 2 sets with John coming out on top. Chuck threw well and had opportunities to extend the match but in the end, simply lost to a better player, 3-1.

                                           2010 Cricket City Championships

                                                                               First Round

The cricket playoffs got off with a "bang" as Candra McClellen, the # 14 seed defeated # 3 seed Tom Hoskins, 2-1 at Daytona's. Tom was the highest seed playing in the round and the highest seed ever to lose in the first round.
At the Irish Pub, # 12 Eric Ginac downed Bob Archbold in what was the best match of the round. Bob won the first 3 legs and was ahead in what could have been the last leg of the match, before Eric rallied all the way back scoring a 2-1 win. Apparently Eric blasted triple 17's frequently to spur the upset.
Chuck Hudson swept 4 legs to score the 2-0 win over Mike Cook in a match played at the Irish Pub. Chuck was steady through out the match to advance to the second round.
Sandy Hudson beat team mate Gene Smith 2-0 at the Irish Pub in a match were both players played well. But in the end Sandy was too consistent for Gene to handle.
David Howard also beat team mate Howie Kratz 2-0 to advance. David played well through out the match which was played at Two Bert's.
Marc Cetrone pulled out of the playoffs pending a move which allowed Jeff Turner to advance. Brian Bemis and John Liggett earned first round "byes".

                                                                            Second Round

Top seed Brian Bemis started his bid for a return trip to the finals with an impressive 2-0 win over David Howard at Two Bert's. Brian was also last season's top seeded player in the cricket playoffs. This was a well played match between team mates and friends who were both top seeds in last year's event. Brian in Cricket and David in 501.
Chuck Hudson advanced to the semi-finals with an ugly 2-0 victory over Eric Ginac. Chuck over came a huge deficit in the very first leg, down 4 numbers he built some steam on Triple 17's and blasted bull's to complete the comeback. The match was played at the Irish Pub and both players shot good in streches but were inconsistant throughout the match.
Defending champion John Liggett started his title defense against Jeff Turner and was solid and steady through out the match winning 2-0. The match was played at the Irish Pub and is a rematch of last years semi finals. They have met in three city championship events now with the free world title slightly in John's favor 2-1.
Sandy Hudson beat Candra McClellan 2-0 in a match played at Great Bay Oyster Bar. It was the first ever all female GPDA playoff match and Candra was shooting for another upset like she pulled off in the first round. But Sandy was steady and at times threw strong darts to advance to her first cricket final four.

                                                                                       Final Four

For the second straight season Brian Bemis was the Top seed in the Cricket playoffs never losing a match all year. For the second straight season he will go to the finals never losing a set in the playoffs. He easily beat Chuck Hudson 2-0 on a hot night at the Irish Pub. Chuck only really tested Brian in one leg and could not overcome Brian steady darts and determination. He will be playing for his first "Doug Holicky Award" and making his third trip to the finals of a GPDA city championship.
John Liggett beat Sandy Hudson 2-0 to earn his second straight Cricket final and becomes the second player in GPDA history to play for both 501 and Cricket championships in the same season. The match was closer than the score indicated and Sandy barely lost the last leg which would have sent the match into the third set had she won, but John threw outstanding darts as he has done all season in this match played at the Irish Pub.

                                                       2011 Cricket City Championship Final

This was a rematch of last season's final won by John Liggett who comes in this year as the #2 seed against Brian who is the top seed. Neither has dropped a set along the way to the final which was played at the Irish Pub.
Brian's road to the final started with a "bye" , before beating David Howard
and then Chuck Hudson. John also earned a first round "bye" then defeated Jeff Turner and Sandy Hudson. Both players have reached the City Championship in 3 of their 4 attempts.
John edged Brian 2-1 to take the first set and Brian returned the favor in the second set. Both players had thrown well at times but were unable to do so consistency. That changed in the third set as both players started hitting big shots over and over again. Like Chuck earlier, Brian had several key opportunities over two sets but John proved slightly better on this evening, winning his second " Doug Holicky Award " by a 3-1 score.
